Taking Part
Who Can Take Part?
On Saturday 13th June 2026, at Tewkesbury Abbey, we will host the largest community gathering seen in Tewkesbury for many years. Based on the Ledbury Community Day, now in its 11th year, we want as many community groups and public services to come together to promote their activities to the general public.
In community groups we include: all voluntary sector organisations in almost any field. This includes, but is not restricted to, in no particular order: Sports clubs and teams, art groups. youth services, clubs and uniformed organisations, museums, gardeners and flower arrangers, cookery & food; women's groups, men's groups, religious groups, photography, hobbies, games, music, choirs and song, senior citizens, re-enactors, education and learning, local charity and volunteer service organisations, environmental, wildlife, civic and heritage societies.
In Public Services we include Fire, Police and NHS, local government, canal and river utilities.
In addition, we have some space for small commercial or semi commercial bodies in the art, drama, music, education, health and fitness area , which run classes or courses, not those selling goods or individual therapy or coaching. There will be charge of £25 for these bodies to hire tables or demonstration spaces.
We will exclude:
Political parties or groups, national or large regional charities, commercial concerns other than those mentioned above.
Despite the extensive size of the Abbey and grounds, there are only a limited number of spaces. To ensure a representative cross section of organisations in the Tewkesbury area, if there are insufficient spaces we will select participants. We would encourage groups to consider co-operation with like-minded others.
What Spaces are Available?
There are several options available. When you register you should select one option and indicate whether you would like a performance slot. Slots are available without table/spaces, but we cannot then provide facilities or space for publicity or other material.
Indoor
1. Table – a basic 6ft table to be used to display activity, publicity material etc.
2. Table with a small adjacent display area – suitable for roller poster, exercise bike, mannequin etc
Outdoor
1. Table – a basic 6ft table to be used to display your activity, publicity material etc.
2. Table with a small adjacent display area – suitable for roller poster, exercise bike, mannequin etc.
3. A demonstration area, a larger space suited to sport or similar activity. Groups may also book a table.
Performance Spaces
There will be performance space available indoor and outdoor. Groups can be allocated a time slot or slots for their particular performance. These may suit choirs, dance & drama groups, etc.
Groups wanting to give a performance may also book a table and/or space.
Conditions
At this stage, we are just collecting expressions of interest. These should be submitted by 2 March 2026. Assuming we have sufficient groups we will be in touch. In the event that we have too many groups. This Is Tewkesbury will decide which groups to invite: we will try to balance interests, and give some priority to smaller groups.
All participating groups are required to have Public Liability Insurance to cover their participation, we will ask to see a copy of the certificate. In addition we would expect all groups to have a Safeguarding Procedure in place.
Publicity
We intend to mount an extensive publicity campaign for the event, but also ask groups to use their own contacts and channels to boost the event. In addition, we will ask all participants to supply contact details and a brief description of their activities for inclusion in an online (and maybe paper) programme - we see this as a posible first step in developing a directory of community organisations.
To Register Interest
Registration closed on 2 March. We received over 70 entries. We will meet shortly to review all expressions of interest and will contact groups by email with the next month. If you need to contact us in the meantime, please email: thisistewkesbury@gmail.com
